Fall Mantel & Banner Tutorial

Happy Fall to everyone! Today I want to share my Fall Mantel... I have had the hardest time trying to decide what to put on it this year. First, the basket pumpkins on the end, were made by from dollar store supplies. I will share the tutorial with you all next week! So stay tuned :) today I am going to show you what I did to make my banner. I wanted something simple {meaning not time consuming}. So I came up with this idea!

Supplies
Paper grocery bag
!glitter!
Elmer's glue
string of beads / ribbon (to hang the banner on)
clothes pins
Templates :: Owl and Bunting

 Start by carefully opening up the paper bag on its seams, where it was glued.

 Next trace your pattern on the inside of the bag.

I like to use paper plates when I glitter. I find that it helps to keep the glitter more in one spot.
Take your Elmer's glue, and along the edge of the bunting trace with glue.

Then sprinkle glitter on the glue. Continue doing this all the way around the bunting. Set aside to dry.

Now for the owls. I was going to go a different route with them, which is why I cut out thier wings too. But instead I ended up doing the same thing as the bunting. I traced the body of the owl and the wings with the emlmer's glue and then sprinkled them with glitter.

You should now have pieces that look like this.
(for some reason I know I had more pictures, but they are all GONE!)
For the faces of the owls, I took the Elmer's glue and drew circles for the eyes and an upside down triangle for the nose and glittered it with a different color glitter.

Take your bunting pieces and write the word's or letters that you want in Elmer's glue.

Now glitter the words {letters}!

I taped the owls to the strand of beads and used clothes pins to hold the Happy Fall Ya'll to the beads.

I like my mantel, simple for fall!
I got the light strand going across at Joann's. It is supposed to give a candy corn effect, it does a little.
 The leaves are from the dollar store.
I would love to have some of these candle holders for  my mantel someday....
Then I wish I had a fireplace like my mom so I could pick out a screen for our fire place.
I really like this OWL!
Then this vine screen for the fire place. So PRETTY!

Maizy Peas enjoying the warmth of the fire this morning.

Hope you are enjoying Fall as much as I am!

::Fall Leaf Mobile::

In our kitchen the sink is in a corner... I like it... sometimes. Well I have had an ivy plant hanging in the corner when we first moved here. That didn't take long for me to kill it, so now whenever I look at the corner, I feel something should be hanging there. So while I was decorating for fall I was thinking what I had to hang there to make our kitchen "Fall". I went to my craft room and came up with this Fall Leaf Mobile! I had everything already on hand. {I love it when that happens} You ready to see how I made it? It was so simple!

Supplies:
dowel rods (hoop)
leaves
raffia
hot glue
hot glue gun
string
    I did spray paint mine... but you really don't have to.
    Start by putting a dot of hot glue in the center of one stick and put another stick on top of the glue.

    Next add some glue to on end of the stick and add another stick.
    {do the same thing to the other side}

     You should now have this in front of you.

     Take you raffia and wrap it around all three ends that you just glued together to give it extra sturdiness.

    After you are done with that on every end and in the center.
    You are going to tie more raffia to the ends. I ended up tying some in the very center as well.
    Make sure to tie knots and trim the short end off and add a dot of hot glue to hold it in place.

    You should now have this.
    Continue doing this till they are all on. I ended up with 9 strands hanging.

    {you can do this step at the very end}
    I did this next step thinking I was going to hang it while I was adding the leaves.
    So what you will do is tie string on four ends. [make a diamond]

     Then gather all the ends to the center and tie a knot.

     Make stacks of the leaves. I have OCD with having things matching and go in the same order.
    {if I make one of one thing... I sometimes [well most of the time] have to make another}

    Start gluing you leaves on each strand.

    Wa La!
    You are finished and can now enjoy fall in your kitchen or in any part of your home.

    I wish you could all see it when the wind blows and leaves flow.
    Sure make me happy standing there!
    LOL, oh dishes are getting done on time now.

    Hope you all are having a wonderful start to FALL.
    Have a wonderful Monday and enjoy the rest of your week.

    xoxo

    Fall Rake Wreath

    I shared this over The Artsy Girl Connection earlier this week, but I wanted to go ahead and share it with you all now.. She has a Fall Crawl going on with some great quest bloggers. As well as a Fall Crawl link up!

    I found this idea/ inspiration on
    I wanted to make this into a wreath since the day I saw it.
    Here is what the rake looks like... cute, simple and Pretty for fall.

    I did not have a metal rake on hand, and plastic to me wasn't going to work.
    So after going to some thrift stores and searching for a rake, I broke down and bought a brand new rake.
    I found it at Walmart for only $8.. so not too bad.
    I then went off to the dollar store and found some pretty "fall" colors for floral.

    I took the wooden handle off {with some help, it was stuck on there good} and spray painted the rake with premier, and then gold metallic spray paint. After it dried,  I laid the floral onto the front of the rake and used floral wire to hold it in place.
    Next, I took some ribbon and wrapped the end, that the handle was in and hot glued that down.

    Next I took the floral wire and wrapped it around to make a loop for it to hang on the hook on our door.

    After I added the loop to hang it, I hung it on the door it see how it looked and then added the bow to the bottom... I didn't hot glue the bow on I just used floral wire, that way if I wanted I could change the bow for Halloween and or Thanksgiving.

    What do you think?
    Have a wonderful weekend!
    Don't forget to sign up for the mug swap :)

    Hope you have a wonderful day!

    Now for Rose's birthday {here comes the announcement!} I want to have a coffee mug swap. If you all don't know Rose and I LOVE our coffee and it sucks that this year I can't be there with her and celebrate her birthday. When we lived close to each other we were always drinking coffee together. I wish today I could go over to her house and have coffee with her, but we may have to do that over a video chat or over the phone. Cheers! I can't tell you all how many pictures we send each other of a bottle, glass or mug full of a drink, wishing we could share it with one another. Thanks goodness for picture texting :)
    I miss her so much, I have my emotional days, I cry... we both do.
    That's when one of sends a text saying I miss you!
    Then a phone call usually follows.

    I would love for all of you join in and celebrate her birthday with me, by swapping mugs.
    If you want to join in fill out the form below, then click submit and the weekend of September 27th, I will email you with the person you will send your mug to.
    Don't let them know who you are!
    ::!!PLEASE HAVE YOUR MUG SHIPPED BY OCTOBER 6TH!!::
    Stalke their blog, Pinterest boards and see what they love, describes them and then head out and find a mug for them! Weather you decorate one or find one... I am sure they will love their new mug.
    It's all for fun and can't wait to see what everyone gets!
    Now... If you want to.. Do a post on it and come back on October 15th and link up your Coffee Mug for everyone to see and a great way to meet new bloggers.
    ONE MORE THING... SO sorry but this time I need to keep the swap to USA residents.
